Working from Home with COVID

Is it just me- or does the 2020 lockdown feel like yesterday, instead of nearly 3 years ago? I am the bearer of autoimmune diseases and a body that is frequently pushed to its’ limits by no fault but my own. It is a miracle I made it this far without being scratched by the long and ever reaching claws of COVID-19, but alas- here I am, in August of 2022: positive.

I manage CoLab by day, and am an artist by night, so I am no stranger to a work from home lifestyle. Put simply… this week hit different. I could handle getting art done home, but found it surprisingly difficult to focus on my day job while being outside of my office at CoLab!

Here is a list of things that distracted me within 30 minutes:

  • Squirrels fighting over a nut on a branch outside my window

  • A neighborhood kid playing outside

  • All three of my cats

  • The feeling of loneliness and anxiety from home life

  • My room mate watching TV in the other room

  • The dishes in my sink screaming “wash me!”

  • The painting in the corner I need to finish

Clearly, I benefit from a distraction-free office setting. I miss my ADD accountability buddy (Asst. Manager, Sara), I miss the sound masking system, I miss all of our wonderful & kind hearted community members, I miss the plants, but mostly, I miss the ENERGY. CoLab radiates a gentle buzz of productivity and motivation, mixed up with fun and joy-sparking moments.

I am thankful to have widened my perspective on a work from home experience with subject matter other than art or other creative ventures. I clearly see the effect that a dedicated work space has on my productivity levels, mood, motivation, and overall work experience. Book a tour to see for yourself!
